Row 1 (base): With I/9 (5.5mm) hook and A, leaving a 36 (91cm) tail on 1 of the pieces, ch 10, TW, starting with 3rd ch from hook, 1 hdc in each ch to end of row—8 sts.

Row 2: Ch 2, TW, hdc next 2 sts tog, 1 hdc in each of next 4 sts, hdc next 2 sts tog—6 sts.

Row 3: Ch 2, TW, 1 hdc in each st to end of row—6 sts.

Row 4: Ch 1, TW, hdc next 2 sts tog, 1 hdc in each of next 3 sts, 2 hdc in next st—6 sts.

Row 5: Ch 2, TW, 2 hdc in next st, 1 hdc in each of next 3 sts, hdc next 2 sts tog—6 sts.

Row 6: Ch 1, TW, hdc next 2 sts tog, hdc next 2 sts tog, 1 hdc in next st, 2 hdc in next st—5 sts.

Row 7: Ch 2, TW, 2 hdc in next st, hdc next 2 sts tog, hdc next 2 sts tog—4 sts. Fasten off. Align pieces and whip stitch around, stuffing lightly and leaving base ends open. Pull base ends apart slightly and whip stitch to top of body (Fig. 1). Tie off and weave in ends.
